In this post, we’ll go through everything you need to know about the hike to Nauyaca Falls, including how to get there, how much it costs, when to go and what to expect. While most people choose the truck or horseback riding, we chose the hike to Nauyaca Falls ( of course! We’re not called Dirty Shoes and Epic Views for nothing!). Nauyaca Falls is a beautiful multi-tiered waterfall set in the jungle, yet it’s easy to drive to and there are three different ways to get to the actual falls…hiking, horseback riding, or via truck rides. Well, not to worry, Costa Rica has plenty of them! And if you happen to find yourself along the Central Pacific coast, hiking to Nauyaca Falls should be a definite contender for your Costa Rica itinerary. Our advice is.go see Nauyaca Waterfall for yourself. If you are planning a trip to Costa Rica, you probably have your sights set on visiting a waterfall or two. We have done this trek many times and always enjoy it. If you know the area and are comfortable in the jungle, you can easily hike up the river bed yourself without a guided tour. If you like riding horses this is a fun family outing. They offer horse tours and bring people in from Baru by guiding them along the river bed. The most popular tour is provided by Don Lulu. There are tons of tour companies that take visitors to Nauyaca. We recommend getting a guide if it is your first time to Nauyaca. There are rock heads that are hidden in some parts of the pool. Again we feel the need to throw out a caution, Check to make sure how deep the water is before you jump. I can't say it's the safest thing to do, but it sure is fun. The face of Nauyaca is full of good finger holds and platforms that you can jump off of. The water can get a little rough with the winds that i mentioned so if you are not a strong swimmer, take floatation or stay out of the middle. The lower level enjoys a huge, and I mean huge pool. You will see rainbows all around if you are standing in the right place. The breeze created by the falling water whips around and creates a stormy feeling with wet wind and water. The upper tier of Nauyaca is bigger than most other waterfall in Costa Rica. The waterfall is a playground offering many places to jump, rock climb, hike, swim or just sit and relax. Nauyaca is one of our favorite spots to visit in Costa Ballena. Although there are more waterfalls in Costa Ballena than one man can count, Nauyaca is the most majestic of all. All this takes place in a jungle setting that still seems untouched by humans other than the horse trails that you follow to arrive. This two tiered waterfall cascades down almost 400 feet of rock before splashing into a huge pool at the bottom. Awesome is the first word that comes to mind when someone asks me to describe Nauyaca Falls.

Bear this in mind when the weather is stormy or conditions are rough.Īnd don’t be caught out by the ‘seventh wave’. It may seem fun to wait for a wave to sweep up the beach or along a harbour wall, but only 15cm of water can knock you off your feet. Wave dodging is for sunny, calm days and gentle waves! Watch out for surging waves - they don’t break, so they can knock you off of your feet more easily and drag you into deeper water. When a wave breaks it loses some of its power and momentum. They most commonly occur at low tide and break quickly with a lot of force making them dangerous for beginners. Dumping wavesĭumping waves break powerfully in shallow water and should be avoided. Start off in the shallow white water before you progress to deeper water and unbroken waves. They are ideal for beginner board riders. Spilling waves are softer and more consistent waves that break gradually as they approach the shore. That it always happens on the seventh wave is a myth, but sometimes it does! Spilling waves Waves move in sets and the ‘seventh wave’ – the bigger wave in the middle of a set – often comes further up the beach. south-west winds have a longer fetch and cause larger and more powerful waves.south-east winds have a shorter fetch and cause smaller waves. On the south coast of England, south-east winds (ones originating from the south-east and heading north-west), have less open sea across the English Channel than south-west winds blowing in from the Atlantic Ocean. How steeply a beach slopes or shelves and the topography of the sea bed near the beach will also affect the size and type of wave. how far the wave has travelled (known as the fetch). The size and power of a wave is influenced by three main factors: Depending on which is stronger, waves can be either constructive or destructive. The movement of a wave up the beach is known as the swash, its movement down the beach is known as the backwash. They can also be caused by seismic activity. Waves are formed by friction when the wind blows across the surface of the sea, causing a swell as water particles rotate and move forwards. One of the crucial elements of sea safety and for anyone who visits the coast, is to know the basics about waves so that they can keep themselves and others safe. They are one of the most exciting and impressive features of our UK and Irish coastlines and they are the primary force shaping coastal change. Powerful breaking waves have the potential to bring out the big kid in all of us. "That was when I believed her," says Daokun. With Father's Day right around the corner, I wondered what kind of unique experience I'd want for my first Father's Day as a new dad, and the gift of a local concert or arts experience immediately came to mind. Heck, I don't think I got the location until hours before the show. I think I signed up a few weeks in advance and didn't know what kind of music I would hear and other than the neighborhood. My first Sofar Sounds show in Chicago in 2015 was pretty special. Retention (glocks): old sidecar = new 2.The CCW (concealed carry weapons) subreddit is a community about sharing articles, tips, and links about various topics that address CCW. Getting a good grip: AXIS > old sidecar > new 2.0 sidecar I could maybe see a tourniquet attachment being useful, but again not really practical IMO.Ĭomfort: AXIS > old sidecar > new 2.0 sidecarĬoncealability: AXIS > old sidecar = new 2.0 sidecar (splitting hairs really) For me and my thoughts- I would never need to conceal an AR mag as I don't conceal an AR. I am not considering "what if" scenarios for professions I do not belong to (law enforcement, under cover work, military, etc.) as I have no experience to share. I find the new 2.0 trex arms sidecar to be borderline "gimmicky" with the ability to conceal different items (tourniquet, AR mag, cuffs, etc.) over a pistol magazine IMO. The fit and finish of the new 2.0 sidecar holster is fantastic as is the old version. I like the old trex arms sidecar more than the new 2.0. My AXIS Elite for my VP9 is absolutely perfect like the trex sidecar is for my Glocks. Both Trex sidecars knock the socks off the Tier1 AXIS Elite in retention (for my Glocks). More importantly (to me), the Tier1 has the easiest ability to get a good purchase on the pistol grip when drawing. The Tier1 is more comfortable and conceals better (splitting hairs on concealability) than either trex sidecars. In summary, I prefer the Tier1 AXIS elite to either Trex arms sidecars (even though the retention on my Tier1 is not great and wiggles). Belt clips must be completely unscrewed and screws removed to adjust height of clips in both new 2.0 and old versions (not a big deal, just an observation). I personally do not care for the belt claw trex uses. This is the only thing I like better about the trex sidecars over the Tier1 (Glock) holsters. They have a great balance between "click" and "friction fit" and feel great when holstering and un-holstering. The retention on both the new 2.0 and old trex arms holsters are in my opinion perfect. Both versions are great in fit and finish. I also find the comfort of the old version to be slightly better. That said, and I am not sure why, the old sidecar is equal in its ability to conceal, but my ability to get a good purchase on the grip of my Glock is better on the old sidecar. There are many ways to adjust these holsters and I had to play with them to find a good fit, but I did find one. The things I like about the trex sidecar (new 2.0 and old) is the ability to change retention and how it conceals. Belt clips have a "channel" between holes so you can adjust height my just loosening the screw (very cool). Belt claw IMO is the best I have tried to date. VP9 holster is perfect- I just prefer to CCW my Glock. The AXIS Elite for my VP9 does not do this- it has part "click" part "friction fit" feel to it. Not sure why this happens and I am being OCD, but it bothers me a lot. My only gripe on this holster- my Glocks wiggle about 1/4" once they "click into place". For me, it has unsurpassed comfort, concealability, and ability to get a good grip. If I were skinnier, all comments made below might be redacted. I find it is really comfortable to conceal and get a good grip on my firearm when the top of the grip rest right under that "shelf". I am husky and have a small "shelf" (see picture below). I loosen the belt now whenever I sit down and tighten it when I stand up- I believe the AGIS would have been perfect had I used this belt before selling it. I also bought a WPS NEXbelt ratcheting belt about that same time. I sold the AGIS elite and bought an AXIS elite that has the shock cord holding it together. I believe this was due to my belly pushing too much pressure into the firearm and holster. I had trouble with the AGIS buttons popping apart while I was wearing it. The AGIS Elite got benched for the AXIS Elite. the Tier 1 AXIS and AEGIS elite holsters (Glock 19/45 and VP9)įor starters, my first sidecar was the old trex arms holster which got benched for the Tier1 AGIS Elite. the old trex arms sidecar (Glock 19/45 only)ģ.
